Over the summer, Everton were incredibly active in the transfer window as they signed six players, three of which came from Barcelona.
They broke their transfer record to bring in former Watford man, Richarlison while also bringing in Kurt Zouma on loan for the season and signing Bernard on a free transfer. So far it looks as though all those signings have made an impact at the club despite the Toffees losing their two of their last four games.
They now sit two points off Manchester United in sixth and could well even find themselves overtaking the Manchester club by the end of the season.
One player who has been central to their solid form over the last few weeks, is Barcelona man and loanee, Andre Gomes.
The former Valencia midfielder has been superb for Marco Silva and looks as though he could well turn out to be a star in the Premier League. In tandem with Idrissa Gueye, Gomes has formed one of the best midfield duos outside the top five and was one of the few players to put in a good performance against Manchester City last weekend.
As you’d expect from a player that plays for Barcelona, his ability with the ball is superb and he has given Everton a quality midfielder to build attacks from. Moreover, he can take the ball under pressure and can also drive forward to join the attack.
He joined the club with an injury but over the last few weeks he looks back to fitness and has attracted interest from Spurs.
Unfortunately for Everton, the midfielder’s great form is a bit of a double-edged sword. The better he plays the more difficult it will be to keep him in the summer. With Spurs in desperate need of a midfielder, Everton may find themselves outpriced for the midfielder if indeed Barcelona decide to let him go. The only silver lining may be that Barcelona have four quality midfielders in Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets, Arturo Vidal and Arthur.
From Gomes’ perspective, he’ll have plenty of options come the summer and in truth, he may be wise to accept a move to north London.
