What does the future hold for Harvey Barnes?

What does the future hold for Harvey Barnes?

West Brom have had a superb season this year. Under Darren Moore, Albion have turned into one of the best attacking sides in the league and have so far scored 42 goals this season, the most out of the top five.

Both Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez have been superb this season, scoring 18 goals between them in the league. One other player who has been superb this season is Leicester City’s on-loan midfielder, Harvey Barnes.

A product of the Leicester academy, this is Barnes’ third loan spell away from the club and he is quickly showing that he has outgrown the under-23 side. He made his debut for the club against Porto in the Champions League two years ago and did play three times in the league last season.

With the arrival of James Maddison, however, Barnes’ chances of playing in the first-team again this season were drastically reduced.

At West Brom the talented 20-year-old midfielder has been a revelation since he joined over the summer and has been a huge reason as to why the Baggies find themselves in the hunt for the title.

This season he’s scored eight goals in the league while also grabbing three assists in 20 games. Such has been his superb form, that Leicester are considering bringing the midfielder back in January.

At 20, Barnes is in a crucial stage of his career as he needs to be playing consistent first-team football at a high level. He’s getting that at the moment with West Brom and could even guide them back into the Premier League.

He’s found a team that fits his style of play and with James Maddison at Leicester, a direct pathway into the first-team doesn’t seem obvious. Maddison likewise has been brilliant for City but due to his arrival, it seems as though the club have practically sold the youngster. Come the end of the season, he must look to move away.
