Whenever you think about Leicester City, Jamie Vardy is often the first player that comes to mind. The 32-year-old striker epitomises what the Foxes are all about, hard-work, counter-attacking football and punching well above their weight. However, the veteran striker’s future is uncertain as Claude Puel looks to change the way the Foxes play.
Puel’s values of possession football, moving away from the counter-attacking values that saw the King Power Stadium roar in 2016 as the unlikely title winners won the Premier League. However, shifting those core values could well see the French gaffer have to shift out one of the club’s heroes in Jamie Vardy, as his game time continues to decrease.
At the age of 32-years-old, it would be no surprise to see the striker start winding down, but that simply isn’t happening either. It seems like the Leicester man, who’s bagged eight goals in 22 games this season, is still as fresh as ever and wants to carry on going, making a move away one of the most likely options. However, finding a fee for the striker would be incredibly hard.
To Leicester fans, Vardy is a cult hero and someone who will inevitably be immortalised as a legend at the King Power Stadium for his rags to riches story and his Premier League winners medal. Right now, though, the options for him are looking slim and he will have to decide on his future sooner rather than later as if he wants to continue as a first-choice top-flight striker.
It will be easier said than done, though, and finding a club that would be able to match Leicester’s valuation of Vardy and be happy to pay money for a 32-year-old striker who will be looking at retirement in the next five years will be nye on impossible. It will be up to Puel to find a solution to his Vardy problem, and it could be one that’s only settled by a move away from Leicester for the star.
