With the arrival of Jermain Defoe at Rangers, there could be some questions about the future of some of the current forwards at the club.
The striker has arrived on an 18-month loan from AFC Bournemouth this January and is likely to play a key role in the Light Blues’ challenge of competing with their Old Firm rivals Celtic.
The England international is an extremely talented and prolific goalscorer that can help Steven Gerrard’s side look to lift the Scottish Premiership title for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
Alfredo Morelos is unlikely to lose his place in the current first-team, as the Colombia international has been one of the club’s standout players since arriving in the summer of 2017.
The 22-year-old has scored 38 times in his 77 appearances across all competitions for Rangers during his time at Ibrox and has made him a player in-demand this winter.
Gerrard and the Bluenoses have been adamant that Morelos will not be departing from the club this January and have made it clear that any offer made would be a waste of time.
So, with the Colombian held in high regard, and with the arrival of an experienced player as prolific as Defoe, what does the future hold for Kyle Lafferty?
The Northern Ireland international rejoined the Light Blues this summer from Heart of Midlothian following a six-year absence.
The 31-year-old was a fan favourite during his first spell at Ibrox, having been influential for the club during 2008-12 and helped them to three Scottish Premiership titles in that time.
Having had spells in Switzerland, Italy, England and Turkey, he returned to Scotland and made an impact for Hearts.
Just one full season at the Edinburgh outfit convinced Gerrard to bring him back to his former club and things have started off well enough.
Lafferty has hit four goals in his 20 appearances so far, with three of those coming in the league.
However, there have been concerns that he and Morelos are unable to play well together in the lineup and that could see Defoe handed the opportunity to shine in Scotland.
It remains to be seen how Gerrard utilises his three main attackers as the second half of the season goes on, however, Lafferty could be wondering what his future at the club may look like if the experienced Englishman hits the kind of form everyone knows he is capable of achieving.
