Charlton Athletic have enjoyed a rich vein of form recently, with four wins in their last four League One games under Lee Bowyer.
The Addicks would have set their sights on securing automatic promotion to the Championship in the current campaign, after tasting play-off semi-final defeat last season against Shrewsbury Town.
One player that has really defied expectations in the current campaign and holds the key to Charlton Athletic’s promotion is summer signing, Lyle Taylor.
Charlton signed the 28-year-old back in the summer after his contract at AFC Wimbledone expired. The Englishman made his way to the Valley off the back of a very successful three-year spell with the fellow League One side, scoring 55 goals in 150 appearances.
But, the striker has gone up another couple of gears since joining Charlton as he continues to establish himself as one of the hottest topics in English football, with 12 goals and four assists to his name at this moment in time.
Of course, when players lower down the Football League are thriving in their respective divisions, there is always going to be interest from teams higher up the ladder.
Birmingham City are a team that may need to dip into the January transfer market for a striker, with star man Che Adams attracting interest.
The Englishman continues to come on leaps and bounds at St Andrew’s and has played a big part in their push for a play-off spot under Garry Monk this season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists. Therefore, the Blues are going to want to sign a replacement that can also fire in the goals and provide for teammates.
Charlton’s Taylor has shown that he can score bag of goals this season and is currently in the prime years of his football career, so Birmingham should look at raiding another League One club after securing the services of Adams from Sheffield United at the start of the Blades’ promotion-winning campaign.
It would be risky for the Addicks to sell him in January as he would play a huge part in their promotion push, but if the Blues come calling after receiving funds for Adams, they may have no option but to move him on.
What do you think Charlton and Birmingham fans?
