From Barcelona’s point of view, Philippe Coutinho has not made the sort of impact they would have expected given the money that was invested in him.
As a result, he has since been linked with a move back to England with the former Liverpool man failing to rule out the possibility of a future exit.
“Nobody knows what will happen in the future. All I have in my head right now is to work hard,” Coutinho recently told BeIN Sports (via Metro).
And one English club who are said to be interested in the 26-year-old are Chelsea with the Independent reporting that the west London outfit are monitoring his current situation.
Given the mess at Stamford Bridge right now, a move to the former Premier League champions will probably not be on the top of Coutinho’s list.
However, a change of scenery may be needed if things do not improve under Ernesto Valverde with Chelsea still able to offer a lot to the Brazilian even in their current state.
The financial side of things, of course, will not be a problem while first-team spots at left wing and in midfield could both be available with Eden Hazard possibly departing in the summer and neither one of Mateo Kovacic or Ross Barkley pulling up any trees.
As for Chelsea, whether Hazard leaves or not and regardless of who is in charge next season, they desperately require a player of Coutinho’s profile to come in to give this atrocious squad a much-needed boost.
Ultimately, if Coutinho is keen on a return to English football, then west London might just be the perfect destination.
