What does the future hold for Rafael Santos Borre at River Plate?

Looking back at his time in Spain, it is fair to say Rafael Santos Borre’s first venture into Europe did not go to plan.

The 23-year-old struggled to make an impact at Atletico Madrid, and did not fair much better when going out on loan to Villarreal.

Borre, however, could be about to get another chance in one of Europe’s top leagues with a Premier League outfit said to be interested in the River Plate striker.

According to Marca Claro (via Sport Witness), Crystal Palace have made contact with Borre’s entourage as the south London club look to bolster their forward options.

Based on how his last experience went in an elite division like La Liga, though, now might not be the right time for Borre to make such a gigantic leap by moving to the Premier League.

Albeit he is now an older and much more experienced player compared to then, his goalscoring record at River Plate is still a cause for concern.

Simply put, the former Deportivo Cali man is not a prolific No.9, something Crystal Palace will desperately need should Michy Batshuayi return to Chelsea.

Considering that, remaining at River Plate for a further season or two where he can continue his development in an environment he is comfortable in, could be the best play here.

Only after, should Borre contemplate a move to Crystal Palace or another Premier League side. Sooner, and the ex-Colombia U20 international could be in for a repeat of his disappointing spell in Spain.
