What does the future hold for Sean Longstaff at Newcastle United?

Newcastle United failed to secure all three points in their last Premier League outing as they suffered defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers at St James’ Park.

The Magpies will be desperate to seek improvements under Rafa Benitez in the current campaign, with relegation to the Championship still being a worry at this stage. Indeed, a successful January transfer window could help turn things around at St James’ Park, with improvements needed in a lot of areas.

However, Newcastle United may not need to dip as far into the transfer market as they think as Benitez has a secret weapon that he is yet to use this season.

Sean Longstaff signed a new four-year contract recently after impressing the Newcastle boss. The 21-year-old made his first-team debut in the 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the League Cup and has appeared on the bench in the Premier League as an unused sub four times this term.

And, Benitez recently indicated that Longstaff will be handed his Premier League debut “sooner rather than later” with Newcastle United, so the Magpies’ saviour could well be on his way.

Newcastle United have improved in attacking areas in recent times, but they lacked any real conviction in the final third against Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out and the final pass was missing.

The youngster has plenty of potential and already has four assists and one goal to his name in nine appearances in the Premier League 2 this season, so it’s clear to see that he has what it takes to find attackers in key areas. He will bring an injection of energy and creativity into proceedings that has been missing at St James’ Park this season, with a couple of impressive performances in the side helping transform the Magpies’ season.
