Manchester City have been simply unstoppable in recent times as they continue to excel under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, with the chance to secure a number of pieces of silverware.
The Citizens won’t want to let Liverpool ruin their Premier League title defence, having caught them up from an unlikely position in recent weeks.
However, it appears as if the Manchester club are eyeing a possible summer swoop, as according to The Mirror, Manchester City have made Saul Niguez their No.1 summer target to replace Fernandinho.
Indeed, the Spaniard has established himself as one of the world’s best midfielders in recent years, having excelled on the international stage and at current club Atletico Madrid in all competitions. He has also helped the Spanish club secure a number of pieces of silverware, including two Europa League trophies and a UEFA Supercup.
One problem for Manchester City has been getting the best out of Kevin De Bruyne in the current campaign as he just hasn’t been able to live up to expectations after returning from injury. But, it’s fair to say that he hasn’t exactly enjoyed regular minutes and City have deployed him in a central midfield role at times, which hasn’t benefited him.
However, bringing Saul to the Etihad could get the Belgian international back to his best as his presence in the middle of midfield would allow De Bruyne to move further up the pitch, as he sits back at times and controls the play. Also, he has an incredible passing ability which he uses to great effect almost anywhere on the field, so De Bruyne will have no shortage of chances with the ball at this feet, which has been a problem for him recently as Fernandinho is no way near as accomplished as Saul when it comes to passing.
And, the 24-year-old possesses the ability to drag the opposition’s players in as most teams are well aware of his danger, which would create vital space for De Bruyne to operate in.
