# Nottingham Forest: Reds in ‘advanced’ Felipe talks

**[Nottingham Forest](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/nottingham-forest-news/) are in ‘advanced talks’ over a late January move for Atletico Madrid defender Felipe, according to [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1619752829027254272?s=46&t=q0jIEjn0sTnZlXpUJWzPIQ).**

### The Lowdown: Felipe profiled

The 33-year-old is primarily a centre-back who has been with his current club since 2019. The Brazilian has won [two](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/felipe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/156501) senior caps for his country and actually shares the [same agency](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bertolucci-sports/beraterfirma/berater/724) as new Forest signing Danilo.

He has made [113](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/felipe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/156501) appearances for Atletico, but only [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/felipe/leistungsdaten/spieler/156501) of those have come this season, and he has duly been [linked](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11624011/Wolves-want-sign-Brazilian-centre-Felipe-Atletico-Madrid.html) with a move to England with Wolves. However, it seems as if the City Ground could be his next destination.

### The Latest: Forest in talks over Felipe

Romano took to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1619752829027254272?s=46&t=q0jIEjn0sTnZlXpUJWzPIQ) on Sunday evening to share news regarding Felipe. The transfer expert revealed that Forest are ‘now in advanced talks’ to sign the centre-back, with ‘discussions ongoing with Atletico Madrid’.

He added that the La Liga club could try to fast-track a move for Leicester City’s Caglar Soyuncu, should Felipe depart the Wanda Metropolitano.

### The Verdict: Wise move?

[Steve Cooper](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/steve-cooper/) currently has [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nottingham-forest/kader/verein/703) senior centre-back options, three of whom helped the club into the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) in Joe Worrall, Scott McKenna and Steve Cook. Willy Boly and Moussa Niakhate were brought in over the summer, although the latter has missed the majority of the season through [injury](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moussa-niakhate/leistungsdaten/spieler/291200).

Forest have conceded [35](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) Premier League goals in [20](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) games, with Bournemouth the only team to have let in more. Therefore, bringing in an experienced player like Felipe – who sports correspondent Simon Evans lauded as ‘[superb](https://twitter.com/sgevans/status/1238087320777240578?s=20&t=YRZPIrcYl1BGoQjvmBHp4A)‘ in 2020 as a result of his performances for Atletico – could be a smart move.

Tightening up at the back could be the difference between survival and relegation for the Reds, and Felipe’s [experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/felipe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/156501) at the highest level could come in handy over the coming months.
