Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Aston Villa star and former Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Martinez the hero...

The 30-year-old has become a real favourite at times for his club with Villa teammate Matty Cash calling him one of the best goalkeepers in world football earlier this year.

During this year's 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Martinez has only gone on to support that theory, even becoming Argentina's hero in their quarter-final shoot out win over the Netherlands.

Still with a final to play, Villa's shot stopper could return to the Premier League with a World Cup winner's medal, but it appears he is attracting attention from Spurs boss Antonio Conte regardless.

The Latest: Spurs eyeing Martinez move...

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, reporter Dean Jones claims Tottenham are 'looking at' Martinez and whether he will consider a move away from Villa to Spurs.

This comes as the club reportedly look for a long term successor to Hugo Lloris, and when asked about the situation, Jones explained:

“A very interesting position at Spurs going forward. I do think they’re keeping an eye on the Pickford situation. I’m pretty sure they’re also looking at Emi Martinez and whether he might consider a move at the end of the season.”

The Verdict: Right man?

Martinez' age of 30 indicates he wouldn't exactly be a very long term option to succeed Lloris, but he'd be a quality one.

Called a 'hero' and 'crazy' by former Argentina international and Man City star Pablo Zabaleta, the South American keeper has displayed his true ability time and time again at both club and international level.

However, whilst he could be a solid option, reports indicate Martinez may also be an expensive one with a £45m price tag.
