Tottenham: Paratici could tempt Martin Terrier to north London - Follow up

Tottenham Hotspur and sporting director Fabio Paratici by extension could lure Rennes forward Martin Terrier to N17 with Champions League football.

The Lowdown: A real player

Operating on the left-wing, £30 million Terrier is a real threat in the final third, with his goalscoring ability coming on leaps and bounds over the last three seasons.

21 goals and three assists from 37 games was an exceptional haul from the Ligue 1 star last season, and he has carried that stellar form into the new campaign, boasting a healthy return of 11 goal contributions from 14 Ligue 1 games. This comes in the form of eight goals and three assists.

The Latest: UCL persuasion

According to CBS soccer correspondent Jonathan Johnson, Tottenham can persuade Terrier to choose the Premier League over potential transfer rivals due to the lure of Champions League football.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Johnson said:

“I think that there are other clubs who might perhaps be able to put a more interesting proposition to him in terms of immediate involvement in top-level European football.

“So, if Spurs were to come back with some interest, for example, I think the potential of going and playing in the Champions League with them might sway his opinion.”

The Verdict: A perfect fit?

Having bagged 21 goals in Ligue 1 last season, Terrier has still not been rewarded with a cap for the French National Team.

Despite his emphatic impact for Rennes, the forward seems vastly underrated and would suit Spurs down to a tee, with European football writer Tim Williams even calling him ‘very quick’ (Sky via GiveMeSport).

Whilst he could be a perfect fit, the competition from Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Son Heung-min could put him off a move, with regular minutes by no means a guarantee.

This move may be dependent on Terrier’s role within the squad.
