# Celtic: Frank McAvennie reacts to Albian Ajeti update

**Celtic pundit Frank McAvennie has been reacting to an update regarding Hoops forward Albian Ajeti, as per [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/celtic-news-mcavennie-issues-unbelievable-albian-ajeti-claim-after-sources-update/).**

### The Lowdown: Ajeti surplus to requirements

A Celtic source informed [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/celtic-news-ajeti/) over the weekend that the Swiss striker is free to find a new club in the summer as he is not in Ange Postecoglou’s future plans.

The 25-year-old, who cost [£4.5m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53755841) from West Ham, has made just [six](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/albian-ajeti/leistungsdaten/spieler/195906) starts all season and had been missing since December due to a hamstring injury.

He recently returned to the bench against St Mirren, with [reports](https://www.footballinsider247.com/celtic-news-ajeti/) suggesting that a loan move away is more likely than a permanent exit.

### The Latest: McAvennie reacts

McAvennie was talking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/celtic-news-mcavennie-issues-unbelievable-albian-ajeti-claim-after-sources-update/) regarding the Swiss striker. He said it’s ‘unbelievable’ that the 25-year-old is still getting paid in Glasgow and believes that he should have left the club in January.

The one-time Parkhead forward fumed:

“Don’t get me started on Ajeti.

> “Oh my god, it’s unbelievable he is still taking money from the club.
>
> “There are some players who aren’t playing who will look to move.
>
> “Ajeti just sits on the bench with a big coat on not doing anything. He was doing it the other night.
>
> “He’s not going to play, we know this. There are at least three people ahead of him.
>
> “He should have gone in January but I’m not surprised no offers came in.
>
> “I’m not even sure why he’s making the bench on occasion.”

### The Verdict: Costly mistake

It’s safe to say that Ajeti won’t go down as a Celtic legend, and his £4.5m move to the club has been a poor decision.

He has scored just [nine](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/albian-ajeti/leistungsdaten/spieler/195906) times in [48](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/albian-ajeti/leistungsdaten/spieler/195906) appearances for the Hoops and doesn’t appear to fit into Postecoglou’s pressing system, with the manager [signing a number of strikers](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-fc/transfers/verein/371/plus/?saison_id=2021&pos=Sturm&detailpos=&w_s=) during his two transfer windows in charge.

Celtic will be hoping that they can get his [£18,000-a-week](https://salarysport.com/football/player/albian-ajeti/) wage off the books in the summer, with Ajeti still having more than two years remaining on his current [contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/albian-ajeti/profil/spieler/195906).
