Fulham eye bargain move for veteran defender - Fulham News

Fulham are eyeing a move for veteran full-back Kyle Walker-Peters when his Southampton contract runs out this summer, Sky Sports reports.

With Southampton’s relegation confirmed, a number of the club’s most experienced players will be draw interest from elsewhere.

Kyle Walker-Peters will be near the top at that list, given his contract is set to expire this summer and would represent a bargain signing.

Talks are scheduled between with the player’s representatives for this summer, with Fulham fully aware that they face competition from other Premier League clubs.

Steadying the ship

The versatile Walker-Peters would represent a shrewd addition for Marco Silva’s men, with the player able to provide cover on both the right and left side of defence. The 28 year old is comfortable across a back three as well if need be and can also play a more attacking wing back role.

He is reportedly on the radar of as many as four other so far unnamed Premier League clubs, as well as newly promoted sides Leeds and Burnley.

Walker-Peters broke through the youth ranks at Tottenham making his full Premier League debut in the 2017-2018 season. He initially drew comparisons to his near name sake, Kyle Walker, for his pace and defending ability, and in December of 2018 became the then youngest player to register three assists in a Premier League match in Tottenham’s 5-0 win over Bournemouth. Trent Alexander-Arnold would go on to beat his record a few months later.

He joined Southampton in 2020 and has 146 Premier League appearances to his name.
