# Manchester United: Red Devils ‘optimistic’ over new Alejandro Garnacho contract

**[Journalist Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano) says that [Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) are ‘optimistic’ over a new contract for Alejandro Garnacho.**

### The Lowdown: Real Madrid interest

[Relevo](https://www.relevo.com/futbol/liga-primera/real-madrid-mueve-garnacho-20221208191538-nt.html) in Spain have reported that Real Madrid could potentially make a move for Garnacho, with the player yet to put pen to paper on a new contract at Old Trafford.

As per [Manchester Evening News](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/garnacho-contract-manchester-united-message-25673724), talks with Garnacho about fresh terms on a new contract are progressing well, and [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/20483094/man-utd-alejandro-garnacho-transfer-new-contract/) has reported that he could be set for a tenfold salary increase, potentially signing a £50k-per-week deal.

### The Latest: United ‘optimistic’

Speaking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88097561-man-utd-alejandro-garnacho-contract-erik-ten-hag-premier-league-old-trafford), United are ‘optimistic’ over Garnancho signing a new long-term deal with an ‘important’ salary, despite interest from Spain:

### The Verdict: Exciting

The fact that Garnacho is seemingly close to signing a new long-term deal is exciting for Red Devils supporters.

Hailed as having ‘huge potential’ by Argentinian legend [Javier Mascherano](https://www.101greatgoals.com/news/watch-man-united-starlet-garnacho-draws-praise-of-javier-mascherano-after-latest-international-goal/), the 18-year-old has broken into United’s first team this season, scoring two goals and making a further two assists in 11 games in total over all competitions so far ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alejandro-garnacho/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/811779/plus/0?saison=&verein=985&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=)).

He is [yet](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alejandro-garnacho/nationalmannschaft/spieler/811779) to make his debut for the national team, but his current trajectory suggests that his first caps will come in the near future.

Nonetheless, it is important for United to tie down their young talents for the long-term, and Garnacho certainly has a bright future ahead of him.
