# Gary Rowett full of praise for Jack Butland

**Stoke City took a while to get used to life in the Championship but they now appear to be building up ahead of steam, with a play-off place well within their sights.**

The Potters will be desperate to ensure consistency in what is a very competitive league, with at least ten teams all fighting for a play-off place. Interestingly, one of the club’s first team members received a special mention recently, [as according to Stoke City’s official website, Gary Rowett was full of praise for Jack Butland.](https://www.stokecityfc.com/news/boss-praise-for-butland)

Gary Rowett lavished praise upon Jack Butland for his match-winning contribution at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon.

Indeed, the shot-stopper produced three stunning second half saves to preserve the visitors’ narrow advantage and extend Gary Rowett’s side’s unbeaten run on the road to five matches.

[Here’s what the Stoke City boss had to say about his performance:](https://www.stokecityfc.com/news/boss-praise-for-butland)

“We expected that and defended really well as a result, but we have to thank Jack Butland today because he was absolutely outstanding when it really mattered.”

“He made two world class saves, and we rode our luck a little bit, which I think we earned on the back of some resolute and incredibly gritty and determined defending.”

“Jack showed why he is a top international today, and reminded everyone of how influential he is out there on the field – I am delighted for him – he was the difference for us this afternoon.”

### **THE VERDICT:**

Jack Butland arguably deserves to be playing in the Premier League after a number of impressive seasons at Stoke City, but he failed to push through a move in the summer.

Indeed, the Englishman changed [agents](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6291169/Jack-Butland-teams-Wayne-Rooneys-agent-failing-secure-Chelsea-transfer.html) in October in an attempt to try and push through a move to the Premier League ‘sooner rather than later’, so performances like this will only help his cause.
