# Liverpool: Fans react to Georginio Wijnaldum’s contract comments

**Lots of [Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/?s=Liverpool) fans begged the club to give midfielder Georginio [Wijnaldum](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/?s=wijnaldum) a new contract after the Dutchman opened up on his current situation.**

In what was a spiky response, the 30-year-old told Het Parool (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/liverpool-wijnaldum-contract-premier-league-title-race-van-dijk-injury-conversation/)) that he could not comment on whether there was talk of a new contract or not, adding more questions to Wijnaldum’s already uncertain future with his deal due to [expire](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/profil/spieler/49499) next summer.

The Dutchman embedded himself into Anfield folklore after coming off the bench and scoring a brace as Liverpool [knocked Barcelona out](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48179167) of the Champions League in 2019, on their way to lifting their [sixth crown](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48368443) in Madrid.

Wijnaldum has made 199 appearances for the Merseysiders and clocked up over 15,000 minutes, scoring 19 goals and providing 16 assists since his [£25m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36846756) move from Newcastle United in 2016 (via [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/49499)).

With this in mind, supporters were desperate to see Wijnaldum commit his future to Anfield, as one fan even said they believe he is ‘better’ than skipper Jordan Henderson.
