# Glasgow Rangers: Fans praise Jermain Defoe after club posts footage of him scoring

**A number of Glasgow Rangers fans have been waxing lyrical about [Jermain Defoe](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-news/glasgow-rangers-defoe-injury-gerrard/) after the club posted footage of one of the striker’s goals from last season.**

The ‘Gers tweeted a video (via [@RangersFC](https://twitter.com/RangersFC/status/1288398915272953856)) of the 37-year-old’s goal from the [3-0 win away to Hibernian](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/50768184) in December 2019, when he latched on to a Scott Arfield header, took a controlling touch to take the ball away from an opposing defender and rifled it into the far corner of the net.

That was one of [17 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jermain-defoe/leistungsdaten/spieler/3875) that the veteran striker plundered for Steven Gerrard’s side in 2019/20 and, having been [on loan at the time](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46775600), he has since made his move to Ibrox [permanent](https://rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/jermain-defoe-signs-gers-contract/). Unfortunately, Defoe faces a race against time to be fit for Saturday’s opening Premiership match against Aberdeen, having sustained a hamstring injury in the recent friendly win over Motherwell (as per [The Scotsman](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/jermain-defoe-injury-highlights-lack-striking-options-rangers-boss-steven-gerrard-2922133)).

The 37-year-old could be a crucial presence for the ‘Gers this season, with intense transfer speculation surrounding Alfredo Morelos, their [top scorer from last term](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glasgow-rangers/leistungsdaten/verein/124) who has been [strongly linked with a move to Lille](https://theathletic.com/1952630/2020/07/26/).

These ‘Gers fans took to Twitter to show their appreciation for Defoe, who was called a “top player” by one supporter in response to footage of the goal against Hibernian:
