# Glasgow Rangers: Lee Wallace is a ‘Gers legend despite not winning a major trophy

**Glasgow Rangers were successful right up until they were relegated to the fourth tier of Scottish football due to [financial irregularities](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-17026172) in 2012.**

In fact, they even won the Premiership during the 2010/11 campaign. However, as soon as they dropped down the Scottish league pyramid, many of those who were part of that last title-winning ‘Gers side [moved on to pastures new](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glasgow-rangers/alletransfers/verein/124), with the Ibrox outfit effectively needing to look for a whole fresh group of players to get them out of the many problems they were experiencing at the time.

However, Lee Wallace was one of those who decided to stick around and help the ‘Gers out. H joined for [£1.53m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lee-wallace/profil/spieler/36657) in July 2011 when they were reigning Premiership champions but he would have thought at the time of his arrival that he would be playing for a side at the peak of Scottish football rather than a club banished to the fourth tier.

Of course, the ‘Gers did eventually make it all the way [back up to the Premiership](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glasgow-rangers/platzierungen/verein/124) and Wallace was there for the whole ride. All in all, he made [262](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lee-wallace/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/36657) appearances, scoring 25 goals and providing 58 assists in all competitions – he created at least 10 goals in three campaigns.

When the ‘Gers reached the top flight, his playing time was eventually reduced – he made just [10 appearances in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lee-wallace/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/36657) in his last two seasons at Ibrox – and he eventually moved on to QPR last summer [on a free transfer](https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/club-news/lee-wallace-completes-qpr-move/). All in all, he cost them just £5,839 per appearance, writing himself into the history of the club. He may not have won a major trophy, but he remains a ‘Gers legend.
