# Glasgow Rangers: Predicted XI to face Aberdeen

**Glasgow Rangers [get the 2020/21 Premiership season underway](https://www.skysports.com/scottish-premier-fixtures) with a trip to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen this lunchtime.**

After a stormy summer which saw the ‘Gers [accuse](https://talksport.com/football/693592/rangers-spfl-corruption-serious-concerns/) the SPFL of corruption over their handling of the league resolution proposal following the [premature end](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11781/11990125/celtic-crowned-scottish-premiership-champions-and-hearts-relegated-as-spfl-end-season#:~:text=The%2042%20SPFL%20clubs%20voted,fixtures%20could%20not%20be%20played.) to the 2019/20 campaign, and their [unsuccessful attempts](https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/rangers-lose-out-on-bid-to-force-investigation-into-spfl-1.4251714) to launch an independent inquiry into the authority, the club’s supporters can finally [turn their attention to on-field matters](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-news/gers-fans-spfl-five-subs-rule/) as a new season gets underway.

With Celtic [not in action until tomorrow](https://www.skysports.com/scottish-premier-fixtures), Steven Gerrard’s side have the chance to lay down an early marker on their Glasgow rivals by claiming three points away to the Dons, a fixture which [ended in a 2-2 draw](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glasgow-rangers/spielplan/verein/124) last season.

The ‘Gers manager [confirmed](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/alfredo-morelos-sends-rangers-ready-22447116) that Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis are his only injury absentees for the game at Pittodrie, giving him a near-full deck from which to choose.

Here is our predicted starting line-up for the Light Blues’ first match of the 2020/21 Premiership campaign:

![gers-predicted-xi-aberdeen-gerrard](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/lineup-16.png)

The evergreen **Allan McGregor** is set for another season as the Light Blues’ [first-choice goalkeeper](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glasgow-rangers/leistungsdaten/verein/124), with a largely familiar back four ahead of him. The full-back duo of **Borna Barisic** and **James Tavernier** were [firm favourites of Gerrard last term](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glasgow-rangers/leistungsdaten/verein/124) and are near-certain to start at Pittodrie, as is **Connor Goldson**, who [played every single minute](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/connor-goldson/leistungsdaten/spieler/163656) of the team’s 2019/20 Premiership campaign.

The 27-year-old could have a new central defensive partner, though, in [summer signing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leon-balogun/transfers/spieler/56100) **Leon Balogun**, who is also a former Brighton man now at Ibrox. The Nigeria international could be [given his league debut](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leon-balogun/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/56100) for the ‘Gers today, with George Edmundson also pushing to start alongside Goldson.

**Glen Kamara** and **Ryan Jack** are [likely to start](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glasgow-rangers/leistungsdaten/verein/124) in midfield, while the enforced absence of Davis could see **Joe Aribo** take up a role in the middle of the park. The former Charlton man enjoyed some success as a creative outlet when [moved to a wide attacking role](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-aribo/leistungsdaten/spieler/468198) last season but may have a more withdrawn position against Aberdeen as needs must.

The two wingers are [likely](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glasgow-rangers/leistungsdaten/verein/124) to be **Ianis Hagi** and **Ryan Kent**, with the Romanian now a fully-fledged ‘Gers player after making his initial loan move from Genk [permanent](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/52796014). **Alfredo Morelos** could be called upon to lead the line despite [reports of a £17m deal being agreed](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-rangers-advanced-talks-to-sell-morelos/) for his sale to Lille.

\[freshpress-poll id=”312025″\]

Defoe would probably have been given the nod to start at centre-forward had he not been injured but, with Greg Stewart seen by Gerrard as a [reserve at best,](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/greg-stewart/leistungsdaten/spieler/156775) the Colombian could start despite rumours of his impending exit from the club.

***‘Gers fans, is this the line-up that you expect to see at Pittodrie this afternoon? Comment below with your views!***
