# Celtic: Giorgos Giakoumakis set for Atlanta United move

**According to [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1621943563444445184), [Celtic](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/celtic-news/) striker Giorgos Giakoumakis is set to sign for MLS club Atlanta United.**

### The Lowdown: Four league starts

The Greece international has struggled for starts under Ange Postecoglou this season but has still made [28](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georgios-giakoumakis/leistungsdaten/spieler/234850) appearances in all competitions. The 28-year-old has scored [nine](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georgios-giakoumakis/leistungsdaten/spieler/234850) times but has made just seven starts, with only four of those coming in the [Premiership](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/scottish-premiership-news/).

He has been [missing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georgios-giakoumakis/leistungsdaten/spieler/234850) from the matchday squad entirely in recent weeks due to [uncertainty](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/12788730/celtic-transfer-news-ange-postecoglou-eyeing-one-more-signing-but-has-no-news-on-giorgos-giakoumakis-exit) over his future, but it looks as if a move away from Glasgow is now set to be complete.

### The Latest: Giakoumakis Atlanta-bound

Romano took to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1621943563444445184) on Saturday evening to share news that he’s heard out of Parkhead regarding Giakoumakis.

The transfer expert said that the forward is set to sign a three-year deal with Atlanta in a deal worth £4.3m, with ‘[hijack completed](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1621942399361490945?s=46&t=EsHGD20x3P2Tq-MmWswOjg)’ ahead of Japanese suitors Urawa Red Diamonds.

### The Verdict: Works for everyone?

An exit seemed inevitable for the player after [contract talks stalled](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/giorgos-giakoumakis-poised-shock-celtic-28622154) towards the end of 2022, and this deal should suit all parties.

Giakoumakis should get the chance to play regular first-team football once again, as Atlanta will be getting a proven goalscorer and Celtic will have made a nice £1.8m profit after spending [£2.5m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/12396075/celtic-transfer-news-georgios-giakoumakis-joins-parkhead-side-from-vvv-venlo-on-a-five-year-deal) on his services in 2021.

A replacement was already brought in during the January transfer window by Postecoglou in Oh Hyeon-gyu, so everyone may well be satisfied by this update – apart from Urawa Red Diamonds, of course.
