# Glasgow Rangers: Charlie Adam admits to cheering against Gers whilst at Ibrox

**Charlie Adam has admitted to cheering against Glasgow Rangers when they played Dundee in the 2003 Scottish Cup final – even though he was employed by the Gers at the time.**

Adam started his career with the Ibrox outfit, coming through the youth system there, but he is actually a Dundee fan. He was not involved in that 2003 showpiece, and as such, he watched the game amongst his fellow supporters at Hampden Park.

Speaking about the game, [he said](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/charlie-adam-shock-rangers-reveal-22695178):

“*I remember being employed by Rangers when Amoruso scored in the final and I was in the Dee end hoping my team would win.*

*“Unfortunately we didn’t but that’s how it goes. So I am just looking forward to this opportunity being at Dundee now.”*

This is a rather a shock admission from Adam, who the Gers sold for just [£500,000](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/charlie-adam/profil/spieler/28990) to Blackpool in 2009. Whilst he may have only been a teenager at the time, [without a senior appearance to his name](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/charlie-adam/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/28990), he was still on the books of the 54-time Scottish champions – this is probably not what he should have been doing at the time.

Adam, who cost [£7.5m](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2011/jul/06/liverpool-sign-blackpool-charlie-adam) when he joined Liverpool from Blackpool, is [not the most popular figure](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-transfer-rumours/gers-fans-slam-charlie-adam-morelos-transfer-value/) amongst the Gers supporters – after comments like this, it is not hard to see why.
