# Glasgow Rangers: Gerrard urges Barjonas to do better

**Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has said that Jamie Barjonas is better than what he has been showing at the Ibrox outfit.**

The 21-year-old shone for the Gers on Saturday, as he scored in the the Ibrox outfit’s 2-0 victory against Nice in the Veolia Trophy. So far, he has made just [nine](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jamie-barjonas/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/345758) appearances for the 54-time Scottish champions in all competitions – his time to make a real impression at the club is running out, especially with his contract [set to end next year](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jamie-barjonas/profil/spieler/345758).

Gerrard, though, still believes in him, as he said after the match. He [told Rangers TV](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d38FlAwYyyQ):

*“I’m pleased for Jamie. This is the first time since I have been in a first-team game that he has really shown personality. We know he has got that, we think he is better than what he’s been showing. So he will stay around us a bit longer and we’ll try and get him a few more opportunities.”*

So far, a 19-game spell with Raith Rovers, where he scored two goals and provided three assists, is his best period in professional football – he is yet to make a real impact. There have been [reports](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/jamie-barjonas-set-rangers-loan-22378324) linking him with a loan move away from Ibrox this summer, but these comments indicate that he will be given the chance to show he has what it takes to make it at a club like the Gers.

It is all well and good doing it in a pre-season match, though – it is different altogether influencing the game when it really counts. That, now, is surely the aim for the midfielder.
