# Glasgow Rangers: David Tanner suggests Gers will make Dykes move

**Journalist David Tanner has said he suspects Glasgow Rangers will now make a move for Lyndon Dykes following the injury to Jermain Defoe.**

The 37-year-old was force off during the Gers’ 4-0 win against Motherwell on Wednesday at Ibrox just 20 minutes after replacing Alfredo Morelos. In his post-match interview, Steven Gerrard [confirmed](https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/rangers-boss-steven-gerrard-jermain-18645869) it was a hamstring issue and admitted that this blow could force him to dip into the transfer market to bring in a new forward.

Tanner now believes that this could see the 54-time Scottish champions move for the Australian. He [tweeted](https://twitter.com/DavidTannerTV/status/1286059189626982400):

*“Steven Gerrard on his fears over Jermaine Defoe injury: “…looks like a hamstring. We’ll check that out in the coming days. When we know the full extent of that, we’ll decide what we need to do.” I suspect Lyndon Dykes and Livingston might be getting a call very soon…”*

The Gers have been linked with the 24-year-old in recent months, with Livingston said to be looking for [£2m](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8395057/Livingston-want-2m-striker-Lyndon-Dykes-Celtic-Rangers-lead-hunt-demand-star.html) for his signature. The forward had an impressive last season with the Premiership side, scoring [12](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lyndon-dykes/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/347138) goals and providing 10 assists in all competitions, which explains the interest.

However, it seems unlikely that he can replace the input of Defoe. The former England international scored [17](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jermain-defoe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/3875) goals in all competitions last term – a record that Dykes has never come close to matching or surpassing. With the likes of [Ivan Toney](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-toney-has-revealed-plans-as-rangers-celtic-west-brom-circle/) also linked, the Gers should look elsewhere to solve their problem.
