# Glasgow Rangers: McAvennie thinks the Gers can’t afford Lyndon Dykes

**Frank McAvennie has [told Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/can-rangers-afford-him-exclusive-pundit-reacts-to-ibrox-pursuit-of-ace-who-bullied-celtic/) that he does not think Glasgow Rangers can afford to sign Lyndon Dykes this summer.**

The Gers have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old after he impressed in the Scottish Premiership before it was prematurely drawn to a close – he scored [nine](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lyndon-dykes/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/347138) times and provided eight assists in 25 matches for Livingston. That has attracted the attention of the Ibrox outfit.

McAvennie, though, believes the 54-time Scottish champions will be priced out of a move, saying:

> *“Dykes has caused problems for the Rangers and Celtic defence.*
>
> *“He could have tipped his hat to Scotland and I would have endeared him but he is going to play for Australia which is fine.*
>
> *“A good player but he will cost a lot of money. I do not know if Rangers could afford him.”*

It appears that Livingston are looking for [£2m](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8395057/Livingston-want-2m-striker-Lyndon-Dykes-Celtic-Rangers-lead-hunt-demand-star.html) for a player who is currently valued by Transfermarkt at [£428,000](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lyndon-dykes/marktwertverlauf/spieler/347138) – that represents a significant increase. However, the Gers have already parted with [£3m](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/5642537/hagi-move-rangers-gheorge-viitorul-600k-windfall/) to sign Ianis Hagi and are [still in the race](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/5685955/celtic-rangers-stump-up-toney-peterborough/) for Ivan Toney, who has been valued at [£10m](https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/football/peterborough-united/peterborough-united-star-ivan-toney-attracts-premier-league-interest-2897101) recently.

After having sold almost [35,000](https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/18537080.steven-gerrard-rangers-position-strike-transfer-market/) season tickets already, and with the coffers boosted by a new manufacturing deal [with Castore](https://www.sportbusiness.com/news/rangers-kit-and-retail-deal-to-spearhead-castore-move-into-football/), there is no reason from a financial point of view why the Gers couldn’t afford to make that kind of bid. Whether he is the right pick for them, though, is a totally different matter.
