# Glasgow Rangers: Barry Ferguson urges Kai Kennedy to stay at Ibrox

**Glasgow Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has urged Kai Kennedy to stay at Ibrox amidst rumours of a departure.**

It has been reported that the ‘Gers and the 18-year-old have [reached a stalemate](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/kai-kennedy-leave-rangers-bayern-22356128) in terms of contract talks, with rumours that [Manchester City and Bayern Munich are circling](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/kai-kennedy-leave-rangers-bayern-22356128) in the event that the teenager does not commit his long-term future to the 54-time Scottish champions.

Speaking to [PLZ Soccer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tIQQu71MkM), Ferguson pleaded with the youngster to stay where he is. He said:

> *“A lot of these young players have advisors who maybe try and push them a bit too quickly.*
>
> *“I like young players to stay about and fight for a place.*
>
> *“There’s no doubt the young kid has huge potential so I would like him to stay about.*
>
> *“At this stage in his career it’s not about money.*
>
> *“We’ve seen it with various young players moving far too quick for my liking, I’d like to see him stay for a while longer.”*

Indeed, it could be bad news for both the club and the player if Kennedy leaves this summer. From the Light Blues’ point of view, it would be a crushing blow to lose a potential star player – he has been [compared to Franck Ribery](https://footballtalentscout.net/2020/03/06/kai-kennedy/) – especially after seeing Billy Gilmour [join Chelsea three years ago](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39858879) and [appear in the Premier League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/billy-gilmour/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/423744/saison/2019/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/631) since.

In terms of Kennedy, there is a real chance that he could become an important player for Steven Gerrard in the future – would he really be anywhere near the first team if he moved to City or Bayern? Hopefully all parties can come to an agreement that works out best for everyone.
