# Glasgow Rangers: Alan Hutton urges Steven Gerrard to start Cedric Itten vs Lincoln Red Imps

**Alan Hutton has urged Steven Gerrard to name Cedric Itten in his starting XI against Lincoln Red Imps in the Europa League on Thursday.**

The ‘Gers signed the 23-year-old for a reported [£3m](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/rangers-sign-swiss-international-striker-cedric-itten-four-year-deal-2933090) earlier on this summer, but so far he has yet to set the world alight. He has [failed to score](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cedric-itten/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/243856) in each of his first four matches, and an [injury](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/cedric-itten-injury-blow-rangers-22598721) obtained at the start of the international break will not have helped.

However, he managed [20 goals in 36 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cedric-itten/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/243856) at St. Gallen last term and Hutton believes that he should be given the chance to prove himself against the team from Gibraltar tomorrow. He told [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/hutton-exclusive-gerrard-must-start-barely-seen-rangers-player-v-lincoln-red-imps/):

> *“I would like to see Itten come in. Yes, he’s played games, he’s picked up a little injury but he needs to get up to speed.*
>
> *“I think if Morelos does leave, I would personally play him as the number nine with Roofe off him and then either Barker or Aribo to the right and Kent, who has been outstanding, to the left.*
>
> *“That would be my attacking front four and I think a lot of teams would be nervous so I’d like to see Itten get more game time and get him up to speed.”*

It could be the perfect opportunity for Itten to get off the mark. Whilst Gerrard will be wary of the threat carried by the Imps – they [beat Celtic](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36761213) four years ago in a Champions League qualifier, after all – the ‘Gers are strong favourites to progress to the next round.

As such, [£3.6m-valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cedric-itten/marktwertverlauf/spieler/243856) Itten could do with getting some much-needed game-time and confidence under his belt. The first goal is always the hardest to come – if he can get off the mark in Gibraltar, the goals could then flow for him.
