# Glasgow Rangers: Noel Whelan says Morelos is repaying Gerrard’s faith

**Noel Whelan believes that Alfredo Morelos is finally repaying Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard’s faith in him.**

The Colombia international is now entering his third season under the former Liverpool man at Ibrox, and whilst there have been plenty of positive moments – he has [59](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alfredo-morelos/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/338962/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=51276) goals in those two campaigns in all competitions – he has at times struggled with his temperament, picking up [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alfredo-morelos/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/338962/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=51276) red cards along the way.

Morelos recently scored a brace against St. Mirren in the Premiership, and Whelan believes it is proof he is showing Gerrard he can be someone he can rely on. He [told Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/whelan-exclusive-rangers-player-has-turned-big-corner-in-his-ibrox-career/):

*“It is very pleasing because sometimes you have seen that petulance in a player throughout the years but maybe he is repaying the loyalty that Steven has shown him.*

*“It is very easy to fall out of love with a player like that but that is a reaction of a player that is professional. A player that wants to go out and do the best for the club he is at until whatever time that may be.”*

Gerrard will certainly need to feel he can rely on the 24-year-old this coming season if he does not complete a move to Lille, as has been [mooted](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-transfer-rumours/glasgow-rangers-alfredo-morelos-reportedly-agrees-to-join-ligue-1-side-lille/). The boss is yet to win a trophy north of the border, and he can surely not afford to go a third campaign without a piece of silverware and stay in his job.

If the star forward can continue to produce the same kind of form we saw on Sunday, then he could have a big say on the term’s final outcome.
