# Glasgow Rangers: Richard Forster slams Gers signing of “unknown” Ianis Hagi

**Richard Forster says that Glasgow Rangers have spent £4m on an “unknown” in Ianis Hagi.**

The Romania international originally made the move to Ibrox on loan in January and, after scoring [three](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ianis-hagi/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/282076) goals in 12 matches, he [completed a permanent transfer](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/52796014) to the blue side of Glasgow last month. He was their first signing of the summer, with [Calvin Bassey](https://rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/rangers-sign-calvin-bassey/) and [Jon McLaughlin](https://rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/gers-sign-john-mclaughlin/) having joined the first-team squad since then as well.

However, former ‘Gers defender Forster believes that they have made a mistake with the signing of [£4.05m-valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ianis-hagi/marktwertverlauf/spieler/282076) Hagi. He told [Open Goal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zrMnzH4jho&t=1s):

> *“They’re spending £4million on an unknown, they’d be better spending £1m on a guy who is a bit older but has been there before.”*

It is a rather bizarre claim from Forster. Hagi has [Champions League experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ianis-hagi/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/282076) under his belt from his time at Genk and impressed at the European Under-21 Championship last summer, scoring [twice](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/281272/Show/Ianis-Hagi) for his country. Whilst he hasn’t always been at his best at Ibrox, his [double against Braga](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51482617) in the Europa League as the ‘Gers came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 shows that he has the ability to win matches.

The reported fee is said to be [£3m](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/5642537/hagi-move-rangers-gheorge-viitorul-600k-windfall/) rather than £4m, but it is still a significant outlay for the ‘Gers. Having said that, he has already made an impression and is far from an unknown at Ibrox.
