# Glasgow Rangers: Whelan would not be surprised by Gers move for Kemar Roofe

**Noel Whelan has said he wouldn’t be surprised if Glasgow Rangers were to make a move for Kemar Roofe.**

The Gers are said to be [interested](https://www.voetbal24.be/news/62047/onverwachte-jackpot-anderlecht-kan-kemar-roofe-verkopen-voor-10-miljoen) in the 27-year-old, who is currently playing his football in Belgium with Anderlecht. Roofe has had a good start to his career with his new outfit, scoring [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kemar-roofe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/141350) goals in his first 16 games in all competitions, and that has attracted the interest of the Ibrox side.

[Speaking to Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-pundit-raves-as-rangers-linked-with-signing-27-yr-old-very-much-like-defoe/), Whelan has shared his thoughts on the reported interest, and he would not be shocked if a move for the former Leeds United man materialised. He explained:

> *“Look, this isn’t the first time he’s been tipped with Rangers, is it? So this resurfaces itself again.*

> *“I think he’d be tempted, he’s sampled football abroad and I think he wants that European football, which he’s going to get.*
>
> *“He’s a goalscorer, you know? He works hard and he’s someone that gets you goals to win football matches. Obviously Rangers haven’t forgotten about him since his move to Belgium.*

> *“This would be something we need to watch but it wouldn’t surprise me if they do go in for a player like that. He’s very much like a Jermain Defoe type, very busy, very quick in front of goal, knows where the back of the net. I think that would be a very good move for both parties.”*

Roofe was one of the Whites’ best players, scoring 14 goals in 32 Championship matches in the previous campaign, which led to Anderlecht spending [£5.4m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kemar-roofe/profil/spieler/141350) to sign him. He is currently valued at [£4.05m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kemar-roofe/marktwertverlauf/spieler/141350) by Transfermarkt, so it remains to be seen how much he would cost.

If he could replicate the form of Jermain Defoe, who has managed [25](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jermain-defoe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/3875) goals in 52 games so far at Ibrox, then he would be an astute signing. It remains to be seen where his future lies.
