# Glasgow Rangers: Gers set to stand firm on James Tavernier

**Glasgow Rangers are to tell West Ham United that they have no intention of selling James Tavernier before the end of the transfer window, [according to The Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/james-tavernier-not-sale-rangers-22764156).**

The Hammers have been [linked](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/exclusive-west-ham-considering-bid-rangers-defender-tavernier) with a move for the 28-year-old, along with Brighton and Burnley, with David Moyes looking for defensive reinforcements ahead of the deadline on October 5th. However, Steven Gerrard is keen to hold on to the right-back, and as such the Gers will issue a clear “not-for-sale” warning to the Premier League side. West Ham themselves are also worried that any potential fee would be too high for them.

This should not really come as any surprise – Tavernier is absolutely vital to Gerrard’s chances of success so far this campaign. He is the club’s captain, after all, and although he has at times been [criticised](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/joey-barton-blasts-rangers-captain-21916970) for his defending, the Gers have conceded just [three](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/scottish-premiership/table) times in nine Premiership games so far this term.

It is going forward where Tavernier is truly at his best, though. Since making the move to Ibrox, he has managed [52](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-tavernier/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/62094) goals and a huge 78 assists in 254 appearances for the 54-time Scottish champions. Already this term, he has six strikes to his name, which makes him the side’s [top goalscorer](https://www.transfermarkt.com/glasgow-rangers/leistungsdaten/verein/124).

Ross Wilson and co have already shown their strength in the midst of interest in their star talents, with them already turning down a bid of [£10m](https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2020/0821/1160496-rangers-reject-leeds-l10m-bid-for-kent/) for Ryan Kent. Currently valued at [£4.5m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-tavernier/marktwertverlauf/spieler/62094) by Transfermarkt, and with [two years left](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-tavernier/profil/spieler/62094) on his contract, the Gers are in a good position to do the same with Tavernier.
