# Newcastle United: Graham Potter lauds Andy Carroll, Jonjo Shelvey, Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin ahead of Brighton clash

**Graham Potter has lauded four Newcastle United players ahead of the Premier League game between the Tyneside club and Brighton and Hove Albion tomorrow afternoon.**

Speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of the match (via [NUFC 360](https://twitter.com/NUFC360/status/1306906349725519874)), the Seagulls boss claimed:

*“Impressive, the business they have done. They have players like Carroll and Shelvey, and have added quality.*

*“Everyone knows what Carroll brings to the team physically and aerially. Him and Wilson will be a strong partnership. They have Saint-Maximin too.”*

Indeed, each player mentioned by Potter has their own merit at St James’ Park. In the 2019/20 Premier League season, Carroll won six duels per match and proved his usefulness defensively by averaging 1.3 clearances per game, according to [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/andy-carroll/18998).

Shelvey was also an influential player for Newcastle last term, scoring six goals and making a further two assists in 26 appearances, while also managing to create seven big chances and average a relatively impressive 1.8 key passes per game, as per [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/jonjo-shelvey/36465).

Wilson has already shown what he can bring to the side by scoring on his debut for the Magpies in their 2-0 away win at London Stadium against David Moyes’ West Ham United in their first match of the 2020/21 campaign.

Saint-Maximin scored three goals and provided a further four assists in 26 matches in England’s top flight last term, while also averaging 1.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 4.7 dribbles per game (per [Whoscored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/135891/Show/Allan-Saint-Maximin)).

Indeed, all four players may well have a chance of starting against Brighton and, if Potter’s latest comments are anything to go by, then they could all have a positive impact for the Magpies as Steve Bruce looks to secure another three points to maintain their 100% record in the league.
