# ‘Guaranteed goals’ – Newcastle United fans react on Twitter with popular figure reportedly set for move

**Little over a year ago, the Newcastle United fans were left with shocked looks on their faces when the club brought in Daryl Murphy last summer.**

Indeed, the veteran Irish international was written off by large sections of support prior to his arrival, though did ultimately prove to be a helpful addition to Rafa Benitez’s squad. He notched five goals across their Championship-winning campaign, popping up with crucial strikes against the likes of Brentford and Rotherham along the way.

So, the [recent reports](https://www.nottinghampost.com/sport/football/transfer-news/nottingham-forest-close-2m-capture-218933) in regards to his likely departure were always going to spark a reaction. Murphy is reportedly close to joining Nottingham Forest and, while his ageing years may prevent anyone from getting all that excited, our resident Geordies in the bar have bid a fond farewell to the forward.

With that in mind, here’s a closer look at what Toon fans online had to say about the striker.

> Notts Forest fans getting angry about Murphy costing 2 mil. Guaranteed goals in that league, massively helped us get promoted [#NFFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/NFFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [#NUFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/NUFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
