# Arsenal: Fans underwhelmed after transfer links with AC Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu

**Many Arsenal fans have been feeling underwhelmed after the club were linked with a move for AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.**

[According to Turkish Football](https://turkish-football.com/arsenal-scouts-to-monitor-hakan-calhanoglu-during-milan-derby/), scouts were present during the Milan derby last night as the north London outfit monitored the Turkey international. The 26-year-old was a transfer target for the side during the January transfer window, with [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/arsenal-eyeing-hakan-calhanoglu-transfer-21262801) claiming Mikel Arteta considered signing the player.

Calhanoglu has endured a frustrating campaign with the Italian side sitting in 10th place in Serie A but, on a personal note, he has enjoyed a decent season, notching up five goals across all competitions[(via Transfermarkt)](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hakan-calhanoglu/leistungsdaten/spieler/126414). In comparison to Arsenal’s midfield, [the Milan ace](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/110373/Show/Hakan-Calhanoglu) has had more shots and played key passes per league game than [Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Joe Willock](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/13/Show/England-Arsenal).

His performances seem to suggest he can provide a good attacking threat from midfield but some Gunners fans didn’t seem too keen on signing him. Here are a few tweets from supporters, one of whom derided the club’s head of football Raul Sanllehi as a “[massive fraud](https://twitter.com/neverinc0rrect/status/1226537303067238400?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)“:
