# Hamza Choudhury – Profile

**Name: Hamza Choudhury**

**Club: Leicester City**

**Date of Birth: 1 October 1997**

**Position: Midfield (Defensive/Central)**

## **Hamza Choudhury – his career so far**

At this point in his career, **Hamza Choudhury** is a very well known figure over at **Leicester City** and especially among their fans. But that doesn’t really come as a big surprise since the English international has been brought up in the *Foxes’* academy, clawing his way up the ranks and developing to eventually slot right into the senior squad.

But that journey was neither easy nor short for the now 22-year-old defensive midfielder. After impressing the upper hierarchy with his performances for the youth side in 2015/16, **Choudhury** managed to secure a loan move to *Sky Bet League 1* outfit **Burton Albion**.

He would end up tallying an impressive 28 appearances for them with one assist under his belt along the way too, helping the team gain promotion to the *Championship* by the end of the campaign.

After the end of his loan spells with the freshly-promoted *Championship* side, *Choudhury* returned to **Leicester City** only to be named the development squad’s captain after a good pre-season tour. That would also end up being his first ticket to the senior team shortly after that.

Throughout his stay in the academy, however, he would register a total of 55 appearances for the U23 squad, even scoring once and assisting further three goals along the way. He then made his senior *Foxes* debut against **Liverpool** in the *Carabao Cup* in September 2017 before being given a **Premier League** bow during a 2-1 triumph over **Tottenham Hotspur** later that same year, in November.

From the following season onward, the young midfielder was already a fully-fledged first-team player with lots of experience. So far, he can already boast with a total of 45 senior team appearances with one goal and two assists under his belt.

Even though **Choudhury** is pretty much a known quantity at this stage of his career, he is still at the very beginning of the journey and big things are expected from him in the near future.

## **Transfer latest**

At the very moment, no *transfer rumours* or *transfer news* are connecting **Choudhury** with a potential exit from the *King Power Stadium* in the upcoming window. Of course, that doesn’t mean things can’t change in the upcoming weeks and months but as of right now, **Leicester** are likely to keep their young midfielder.

The situation was, however, slightly different during the January transfer window of 2020 as *transfer rumours* were linking the 22-year-old ace with a move towards either **Newcastle United** or **Burnley**.

With his limited game time and constat battles with **Wilfred Ndidi** for the starting spot in the team, it wasn’t difficult to imagine **Choudhury** actually accepting a loan to guarantee more minutes in the immediate future.

According to *Transfermarkt*, his current contract is still valid until the summer of 2023 and there is no [**Leicester City news**](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leicester-city-news/) indicating any updates on that front either.

## **Player profile**

**Choudhury** is an effective defensive midfielder who works best when deployed just ahead of the backline in order to provide cover, snuff out the opposition’s attacks and ensure his team transitions back into the attacking phase with success.

Some of his best attributes are tackling and intercepting the ball and in the 2019/20 Premier League season, he tallied 17 tackles with a 47% success rate and 23 interceptions. But he is also aggressive and can force recoveries to restart the attack and has registered 46 of them in the current campaign.

But **Choudhury** is also quite secure in possession of the ball although he doesn’t really offer a creative outlet as a deep-lying playmaker. He could be described as someone who is more inclined to stop attacks rather than create them and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

The competition for the starting position in the team, however, is quite tough but the 22-year-old has what it takes to make it on the big stage.
