# Huge boost for Warburton as Rangers seal vital deal

**Rangers fans in the Football Transfer Tavern can breathe a little easier after they have been given reassurances from their wanted defender that he has no intentions of leaving Ibrox.**

Despite recently snubbing the Gers’ offer of a new deal following his magnificent form in the Scottish Championship last term, the 24-year old has penned a new three-year deal with the club, according to the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/rangers-defender-james-tavernier-signs-8448272#7ttgbUVVkH4KohxM.97).

He notched 15 goals in the promotion season, incredibly from a right-back berth, making him one of manager Mark Warburton’s most trusted lieutenants.

He joined from Wigan last term and instantly put himself into the good books at Ibrox, becoming a remarkably potent goal threat despite his defensive standing.

It is a major boost for the club as they look to challenge arch rivals Celtic at the top of the SPFL, following a five year absence from top flight football.
