# Rangers: Alan Hutton hails Connor Goldson revival

**Alan Hutton says that Glasgow Rangers defender Connor Goldson deserves a new contract, applauding how he has turned around his career in the process.**

### **Goldson has deserved recognition**

Goldson has [missed just one game](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/connor-goldson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/163656) for Steven Gerrard so far this season and was the hero for the Ibrox outfit in the Old Firm derby last weekend, scoring both goals in a 2-0 win.

Football Insider has [previously reported](https://www.footballinsider247.com/rangers-exclusive-big-connor-goldson-development/) that the ‘Gers are planning on offering the 27-year-old a new contract, and Hutton believes that is something Goldson deserves. The ex-‘Gers defender [told the same publication](https://www.footballinsider247.com/it-looked-like-his-career-was-done-pundit-reacts-as-rangers-set-for-contract-talks/):

> *“He’s played at a high level and he’s had a taste of playing down south but sometimes as a player when you’re not getting an opportunity you need to take a step sideways,”*
>
> *“Coming to Rangers and showing everybody what you’re capable of and I really think he’s done that.*
>
> *“After not playing so much for Brighton and it looked like his career was done down there and he’s come up here and shown his worth to everyone.*
>
> *“He’s fully deserving of a new contract in my opinion.*
>
> *“He’s one of the first names on the team sheet, a go-to man for Gerrard as well. He can really rely on him so it doesn’t surprise me that these talks are coming up now.”*

### **Back to the top**

Goldson spent his last two campaigns at Brighton as nothing other than a bit-part player, making just eight league appearances combined. The ‘Gers still spent [£3.06m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/connor-goldson/profil/spieler/163656) on his services to sign him from the Seagulls in 2018, but it seemed unlikely that he would have a big future ahead of him after departing the Premier League.

However, he has rejuvenated himself at Ibrox and is now one of Gerrard’s go-to men. Earlier this year, Hutton said he is a [“stand-up leader”](https://www.footballinsider247.com/ive-heard-rumours-exclusive-hutton-reacts-as-leeds-plot-brilliant-27-yr-old-signing/) for the 54-time Scottish champions, and even though he does not have the captain’s armband, it is hard to disagree.

Tying him to a new contract is vital for the ‘Gers – Goldson is a player that, right now, they cannot afford to lose.
