# Interest grows in popular West Ham midfielder with club reportedly insisting on move

**West Ham United secured a much-needed three points on Saturday afternoon, as David Moyes’ side ran out 4-1 winners at Huddersfield Town.**

The points moved the Hammers into mid-table and five points clear of the relegation places, and fans here in The Transfer Tavern are keen to see the former Manchester United and Everton boss consolidate their mid-table position with new additions to the squad this month. Our landlord caught up with fans to chat about the transfer window, but news of a potential departure broke halfway through, with [Italian publication Calciomercato linking](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/fiorentina-insiste-per-un-giocatore-del-west-ham-42717) midfielder Pedro Obiang with Fiorentina.

The Spaniard previously played for the Viola’s Serie A rivals Sampdoria, and [Calciomercato are under the belief](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/fiorentina-insiste-per-un-giocatore-del-west-ham-42717) that a return to Italy could be on the cards this month. The 25-year-old has made nineteen appearances for the Hammers this month with seventeen of those starts, and has proven a reliable choice to Moyes following his appointment. The club will be keen to keep hold of the former Spain U21 international, who could be tempted by a switch back to the southern European nation.

**Landlord’s Verdict:** Reports of a potential transfer for Obiang have come as somewhat as a shock, with Fiorentina emerging as candidates to secure the player’s signature this month. However with Obiang in the first-team and playing regularly in the Premier League at a big club with a passionate fan base, it would be a strange decision if both player and the club agreed to a move.

Fiorentina are a solid Serie A side and the city of Florence is picturesque, but the Italians are languishing in mid-table and a massive twenty-three points off the top of the table. Obiang would be much better off sticking with the Hammers, who do have a lot of potential to progress as a club in the upcoming years.

**Hammers fans, let us know your thoughts!**
