After international debut, Barnes will be the man to watch for West Brom

West Brom are the best attacking outfit in the Championship at the moment- very few people would disagree with that.

With nine goals more than any other team in the league, and averaging 2.6 goals per game, these are stats that will fill any team with trepidation. Given that their hosts tomorrow, Wigan, conceded four goals in their last match against strugglers Preston, they may be in  for a long day.

The attacking ensemble of Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez, with Harvey Barnes just behind them, has proved to be lethal all season, having recorded 20 of the club’s goals between them. But it is the 20-year-old Barnes that may give The Latics’ goalkeeper Christian Walton the toughest time.

It is not so much the goals that the attacking midfielder gets, although he already has five in the league this season, but his creative ability that makes West Brom so hard to handle. Supporting Gayle and Rodriguez, he is sensational, and will continue to be so.

Furthermore, he is coming off the back of making his debut for the England under-21s this past week against Scotland. That is only the kind of boost that will raise his game, and spur him on to improve.

A win could see The Baggies temporarily go to the top of the Championship table, although Sheffield could overtake them again as they travel to Derby tomorrow evening. However, that is a tough game for The Blades; one which could go either way. But all manager Darren Moore can focus on is his team’s performance, and luckily he can have a lot of confidence in them.
