Newcastle fans have had it rough in the transfer market since Mike Ashley took over. Rafa Benitez has often been left to haggle and barter for players, wheeling and dealing for his 4th and 5th choice signings. However, after showing intent in January, the Geordies simply must go and swoop for Dwight McNeil after these reports in The Star.
According to the reports, the young Burnley winger is a target for Rafa Benitez and Newcastle United, and he’d make a superb addition to the squad at St James Park. The Magpies may have a lot of business to do this summer, and the 19-year-old Burnley man would add the explosive dynamism from the wing that they’ve been missing this season making this a deal the Geordies can’t miss out on.
The young Burnley man is on a shortlist that Rafa Benitez has as he plans to add some quality out wide to his Newcastle squad over the summer months. Alongside McNeil on the Geordies’ shortlist are the Bournemouth duo of David Brooks and Ryan Fraser and whilst the Cherries’ double act would be incredible signings, the interest from top clubs and the money involved make it unrealistic, but McNeil is certainly attainable.
At the age of just 19, Rafa could mould the youngster into anything he wants him to be. Nothing is stopping the teenager from becoming a world beater, and in a couple of years, the former Manchester United academy man may become a household name in the Premier League. His tally this season at his age is enough to suggest just that too, as he’s got three goals and five assists for The Clarets.
That tally is good enough for the winger to be attracting interest and as one of Sean Dyche’s only flair players in a mostly long-ball side, the Turf Moor faithful will be desperate to hold onto him for as long as possible. That will be a lot easier said than done, though, and if Benitez gets the licence to spend at Newcastle this summer then the prospect of not being in a relegation scrap every season is one that might just tempt young Dwight McNeil.
