…And breathe. Heung-Min Son is the man to carry Spurs over the line in Harry Kane’s stead, with the England star’s season looking (as per the Evening Standard) all but over.
If you asked any Tottenham Hotspur fan which player they desperately wouldn’t want to see out of action at the stage in the season, eleven out of ten of them would say Harry Kane.
The England star will find no solace in the fact that he is one of the first stars to debut the shiny benches of Spurs’ new physio table.
A meaty challenge (foul) from Manchester City’s Fabian Delph saw him pulled from action prematurely last night, and after hobbling down the tunnel with the aid of the club’s medical staff, his prospects of finishing the season in a pair of boots aren’t looking too promising. “It’s a worry for us,” said Pochettino (as per BBC Sport). “We are going to miss him – maybe for the rest of the season. We hope it is not a big issue but there is not too much time to recover. He twisted his ankle, so we will see how it reacts in a few hours.”
Spurs are heading into a vital period of the season in which they need all hands, feet, noses, heads, legs, arms on deck, and the one golden boot they’ll be missing is the player many may feel they need the most; or is he?
This won’t be the first time Heung-Min Son has come to Tottenham’s rescue in the absence of Harry Kane. Earlier in the year, when the England man picked up an injury against Manchester United on the very same ankle, Son inherited the centre-forward role with relative ease, and between January 13 and February 23, showed tremendous form when bagging four in four games, including one to kickstart the three-goal drubbing of Borussia Dortmund.
Although he has since struggled in front of goal, his performance against Manchester City on Tuesday night showed just what he can offer. Like Kane, he’s industrious, clinical and capable from any angle. Though, to his advantage, he shows a much great turn of pace and offers something the Englishman cannot with blistering snap runs in behind.
Tottenham fans, would you back Son to carry the team as he did earlier in the season? Join the discussion by commenting below…
