With the departure of Karlan Grant, Charlton Athletic must surely act as quickly as possible to replace him to keep their chances of winning promotion alive.
The 22-year-old recently secured a move to Premier League strugglers Huddersfield Town after having an impressive campaign in League One.
Grant hit 14 goals in his 28 appearances for Charlton during the first stage of the season and had been one of the main reasons why The Addicks find themselves in their current position.
However, with his departure, goals may now become an issue for Lee Bowyer’s side, with just Lyle Taylor having hit double figures, with Joe Aribo second behind him on just five.
With the club also facing the fact that they may be without a main goal-threat for the next two games with the former AFC Wimbledon man suspended, The Valley outfit must make an immediate move for a proven goalscorer.
And, one man that could be of interest to those in south London could be James Norwood.
The Tranmere Rovers striker has been making headlines for some time with the Merseyside outfit with his ability to find the back of the net on a regular basis.
The 28-year-old managed to fire 23 goals during their National League campaign as they won promotion via the playoffs and the Eastbourne-born attacker has continued his fine form.
Tranmere currently sit in mid-table in League Two this season and Norwood has played a more than crucial role for the Prenton Park outfit as he sits top of the goalscoring charts with 18 efforts so far.
Obviously the Birkenhead club will not want to lose their main asset this January, however, Charlton may have the upper hand in trying to force a move for him should they look to.
Norwood is out of contract in the summer and The Addicks could look to use some – or all – of the money they received for the Grant transfer to tempt Tranmere into cashing in on their star man.
If Charlton were able to add a player of his quality to the side, then the departure of Grant will surely be eased.
