Arsenal must address a number of positions in their squad this summer if they are to challenge for a place in the top-four of the Premier League.
All their rivals are likely to do the same, including those that finished in the automatic Champions League spots last season, making it a must for Unai Emery.
And, one man that could make all the difference and improve the Gunners significantly is James Rodriguez.
According to a report by The Mirror, Real Madrid are believed to be prepared to offload the Colombian superstar this summer as he does not feature in Zinedine Zidane’s plans. That appointment (well, re-appointment actually) has more or less left the player’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu non-existent considering that the French legend was the man to try and get rid of him initially.
As the report mentioned, Arsenal were linked with a move for the South American playmaker and you would have to say a switch to the Emirates Stadium would benefit everyone involved if it were to happen.
Firstly, the £58.5million-rated Colombia international (per Transfermarkt), would almost immediately reduce the blow that Aaron Ramsey’s departure to Juventus will have left and could help the Premier League outfit to forget about him moving forward; in the nicest way possible of course.
The versatility that Rodriguez can provide the Gunners with is much-needed and he is the type of player that many of the fans in the stands would love to have and support on matchdays. Exceptional on either wing or down the middle just behind the attackers, the 27-year-old would have the opportunity to thrive for the club and would be able to solve the problems that Emery currently has within his squad.
A similar type of player to Mesut Ozil, it might actually help the German to perform to a better and more consistent level if the South American were to arrive, whilst it would also provide Arsenal with some real quality in the final third of the pitch.
His creativity is sensational when he is at his best and he would be able to give the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette the opportunities they need to score even more goals, as those chances would arguably come about a lot more than have been the case over the past season.
But, James Rodriguez should also view a move to the north London outfit as one that would help him to get his career back on track and become the superstar that many had tipped him to become after his extraordinary World Cup campaign back in 2014.
Although he earned a move to Real Madrid following his efforts in Brazil, things have not exactly gone to plan for him and he has since seen his career falter a little. It might be hard to see a two-year loan at Bayern Munich as a move that has stagnated his career, however, his time with the Bundesliga giants has done exactly that.
As such, a move to a Premier League side and a club like Arsenal could be perfect for him. The 27-year-old should have the hunger and determination to get back to his best and reach his potential and with the way the Gunners are currently, he would certainly get the opportunity to better his career whilst at the Emirates Stadium.
