Despite his goal and assist in Crystal Palace’s recent 3-2 Premier League win over Arsenal, Christian Benteke’s future at the south London club still looks bleak.
Prior to that victory, the 28-year-old had been strongly linked with a move away from Selhurst Park, with Het Laatste Nieuws (via Sport Witness) reporting the Eagles are keen to get his large wages off of their books.
Meanwhile, the same outlet have also suggested that Michy Batshuayi is heading towards the exit door. The Premier League outfit are said to be unwilling to buy the Belgian outright at the end of his loan spell due to the price tag Chelsea have slapped on him.
Considering all of that, reports (The Sun) claiming Roy Hodgson is looking to sign Jordan Ayew from Swansea City permanently for £4m are not far-fetched.
With Benteke and Batshuayi seemingly on their way out, the Crystal Palace boss needs other options.
Looking at the bigger picture, though, Ayew is probably not the answer for Hodgson going into next season.
This term, the 27-year-old has just a sole Premier League goal to his name and has not shown anything to suggest he can do a reliable job as a No.9 when called upon.
As someone who can play in multiple positions across the frontline, Ayew is not the worst squad player to have.
Yet you still cannot help but feel Crystal Palace would be better off putting that £4m and the Ghana international’s wages into something else.
