It is a fact many Arsenal fans will slowly be accepting that Aaron Ramsey may not be at the club next season.
With the Welshman’s contract expiring at the end of the season, and negotiations not going well in terms of securing a new one, he may be saying goodbye to The Emirates after 10 years at the club.
The good thing for The Gunners is that there are plenty of young players ready to replace the two time Arsenal Player of the Season. The north London club have consistently produced young exciting players, which is part of the legacy of Arsène Wenger. One teenager who is already shaping up to be the man to replace Ramsey is Emile Smith-Rowe.
It will be hard to truly replace the Welshman at The Emirates because he is quite a unique player. He is neither an attacking midfielder or a defensive midfielder, he is just a box-to-box midfielder who displays all these qualities. Part of the problem at Arsenal has been nailing down what is truly the 27-year-old’s best position.
On the other hand, the 18-year-old Smith-Rowe seems to be shaping up as a very promising attacking midfielder; one that can take Arsenal forward over the next decade. He has not been given an appearance yet in the Premier League, but has looked impressive in the Europa League, particularly his goalscoring performance against Qarabag- where he played as more of a winger.
It seems likely that he may go out on loan over the coming seasons to gain exposure to Premier League football, and while he will not be an instant replacement for Ramsey, he certainly will be down the line.
