He’s been fantastic for the Foxes so far, hasn’t he? Ever since Youri Tielemans was brought in during the January transfer window on a short-term loan from Monaco, he has really taken to the Premier League, and the King Power faithful have taken to him in return.
It was a much-needed move for Tielemans. He wasn’t excelling in a struggling Monaco side. Thierry Henry even resorted to handing the Belgian the captain’s armband in his second to last game given that he is a player who he worked with at international level, which seemed to display his lack of faith in a lot of his former players.
Either way, it showed the belief in the talented 22–year-old who has really proven his ability in the Premier League. Under Claude Puel he started well, but it seems that Brendan Rodgers’ possession-based, attack-minded system truly gets the best out of him.
Tielemans acts in one of the two creative midfield roles, alongside James Maddison and shielded by Wilfred Ndidi and that gives him the license to work his magic, as well the chance to play to his strengths due to the technical quality of some of the players around him.
He has three goals and five assists in just 13 games since moving to the Premier League. That form has been enough to catch the eye of some of Leicester’s opposition, as according to a report from the Daily Star via the Metro, there are concerns from the Foxes that Arsenal and Manchester United could pounce for Tielemans, so Rodgers has asked for a permanent deal to be wrapped up fast.
Rodgers should ensure that whatever fee he commands, Leicester must pay it as he should be a key figure in Rodgers’ side for years to come in what promises to be an exciting new chapter for the club.
