Celtic will be desperate to make the most of their current position in the Scottish Premiership, with another treble in their sights at this moment in time.
The Hoops haven’t necessarily been at their best at all this season but things could soon take a turn for the better if Brendan Rodgers goes out and secures Celtic’s next potential hero.
Indeed, the Glasgow side have already secured the services of Oliver Burke, Vakoun Issouf Bayo and Timothy Weah this month, but there’s still room for improvement.
So, investing in defensive areas could prove crucial for Rodgers as they’re currently missing a spark at the back.
Supporters have had the privilege of witnessing a number of quality defenders at Celtic Park over the years, but arguably one of their best ever defensive signings has to be the capture of Virgil Van Dijk.
The Dutchman signed for £2.6 million back in the summer of 2013. Over two seasons at Celtic Park he established himself as the best defender in Scotland and also one of the best forward players, as his trademark runs from deep helped him produce 15 goals in 115 games. The 27-year-old made a name for himself in Glasgow and it was the first time that he really started showing the potential to become one of the world’s best defenders.
Dedryck Boyata has established himself as the standout defender for the Hoops in recent times, but he’s no way near matching the quality that Van Dijk showed during his time at Celtic. And, with the Belgium international likely to leave for nothing in the summer transfer window, it’s vital that Rodgers looks to bring in his next potential star.
One player who fits the mould is Ligue 2 side Le Havre’s Harold Moukoudi.
The Sun released a report back in August that stated that Celtic had scouted the Frenchman, but he ended up staying in France. And, it has now been reported (as per Made in Foot) that the 21-year-old is being monitored by the likes of Wolfsburg, Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli, so it’s clear to see that he’s a special talent.
Any potential move for Moukoudi would be an ambitious one from Celtic as he won’t come cheap and is clearly rated very highly by a number of European clubs.
Nevertheless, the defender is very similar to Van Dijk in many ways as his main attributes are his aerial ability, strength and pace, which has made him almost impossible to get past over in France. He also has two goals to his name in the current campaign, so he has shown that he can provide the same goal threat. And, the Dutchman was 21 when he joined Celtic and Moukoudi is currently 21 years of age, so the Hoops would be securing themselves another player with the potential to become a future star of the game.Like what the TT have on offer?
