Leeds United currently find themselves in a promising position to really kick on and secure promotion to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa.
The Whites managed to secure all three points against Reading last time out as a Kemar Roofe’s double helped boost their automatic promotion chances.
However, the Yorkshire club have experienced a number of injuries recently that could have a huge impact on their promotion push, so Bielsa currently faces some selection issues.
But, Leeds United may already have the answer to their injury prayers right under their nose, as one of Andrea Radrizzani’s January signings holds the key.
Leeds United currently face an injury crisis at Elland Road as Liam Cooper picked up a knee injury against Sheffield United and Stuart Dallas fractured his foot. This adds to their defensive woes as Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling are already out on the sidelines due to injuries they picked up earlier on in the season.
This has left Bielsa scratching his head in recent matches as he continues to pick from a limited amount of faces, which has offered a number of the club’s youngsters an opportunity.
One player that has enjoyed his breakthrough is Aapo Halme, who signed from Finnish side HJK Helsinki on a four year contract for an undisclosed fee back in January of this year.
The youngster joined up with Carlos Corberan’s Under 23 side upon his arrival, but he has since been called into action in the first team under Marcelo Bielsa this season, due to a number of injuries.
Aapo Halme is winning hearts and fans at a rapid rate.
Indeed, the 20-year-old defender was only given a nine-minute cameo in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers, but he played a very important role nonetheless. And, he put in a dominant performance against Sheffield United recently as he helped his side secure a clean sheet, so he is more than filling the void left by Cooper.
The Finland Under-21 international has been simply sensational during his limited time on the pitch this season, after being thrown into the deep end by Marcelo Bielsa at Bramall Lane, so he is already answering Leeds United’s injury prayers and will continue to do so.
