A new manager sometimes means a new lease of life for a player, and that may be the case for Scott Hogan at Aston Villa.
Incoming boss at Villa Park Dean Smith will relish the opportunity to team up with forward Hogan, who served him so well when both were at Brentford.
The 26-year-old has not featured yet this season, as a groin injury has kept him on the sidelines, but he will be over the moon at the prospect of teaming up with his former manager.
Hogan had a prominent role with The Villans under Steve Bruce last season, playing 38 games in the Championship as the club came close to sealing promotion. However, his season was still not as impressive as his final one with The Bees, where he managed 14 goals in 25 league games. The stylish brand of football that Smith plays suits Hogan’s game and fans can expect big things from the two.
Villa have missed the striker so far this season, but he is nearing a return, which perfectly coincides with Smith’s arrival.
Aston Villa currently sit in 15th place in the Championship, having only managed three wins in their opening 12 games of the season. This included only one win in their past 11 matches in all competitions, which was clearly deemed too poor by the board at the club.
Smith’s Brentford were in seventh place when he left, having recently dropped out of the top six, but had made an impressive start to the season nonetheless. Villa fans will hope that Smith and Hogan can work their magic at Villa Park.
