Middlesbrough were the only member of the Championship’s top four to win at the weekend, propelling them to top of the table.
In a fairly even match against Sheffield Wednesday, it was Tony Pulis’ men that were the more clinical, and that is the mark of a championship outfit.
They host a Rotherham side at The Riverside tonight who are 20th in the league and are on a six match winless run, a fixture where The Boro will be heavy favourites. However, Pulis will still need to pick his best team possible, taking into account fatigue after a quick turnaround from their last game, as well as the international break before that.
One man that will be crucial in The Boro getting the victory tonight is Mo Bešić. The 34 cap Bosnia and Herzegovina international wasn’t necessarily fantastic in the match at Hillsborough on Friday night, but his contribution was immeasurable.
The midfielder took his chance very well with a driven shot from the right side of the box to put the visitors ahead and then pounced on the Wednesday error to put Britt Assombalonga in for an easy goal. That ten minute spell was enough to secure the win for The Boro despite the home side’s best efforts at the end.
The fan favourite Bešić had run of a few games on the bench a month ago, but has worked his way back into Pulis’ starting XI, and is likely to stay there for many games to come, including tonight’s match.
